The best place to write? It’s different for each of us. Mine must have a bed!
High on my list was privacy and seclusion (if I wanted it). That’s why a tiny space lined with fabrics, rugs, pillows was my first choice. A door that, when closed, made it almost sound and interruption proof. And, as I mentioned above, a bed. I wanted mine arms length from my desk. Since my writing habits changed with the seasons and mood, I wanted to be able to write when it flowed, long into the night. Having the ability to roll over and go to sleep was a necessity. If something woke me, I wanted to be able to roll over and back to my desk to get it on paper. A window that looked out at something filled with life, both animal and vegetation, birds were always welcome if they weren’t noisy. I wanted to be surrounded by books that mean something to me, of course with books I need while writing, at my fingertips. The rest of the walls were filled to overflowing with framed photos, mementos, gifts and junk finds…anything that sparked emotion from my heart and mind, but not so overpowering I couldn’t tune them out if I wanted.
